Nikon CoolPix P900

The Nikon Coolpix P900, a small-sensor compact digital camera with a whopping 83x optical zoom lens and a 35mm equivalent reach of 24-2000mm, the world's longest-ranging built-in zoom lens. Packed with features, the P900 also offers full 1080p HD video, built-in Wi-FI with NFC and GPS, the ability to operate the camera remotely from a smartphone or tablet and a 16MP sensor. A flip-out, 3-inch 921k resolution monitor lets you shoot low or high angles, and the high-resolution EVF lets you shoot at eye level. With its rich feature set and unprecedented zoom range, the P900 should be a very appealing choice for travel photography.

Experts Take on the P900

Let’s take a minute to talk about who the Nikon Coolpix P900 is best suited for. The P900 is the only super-zoom camera with an insane 83x optical telephoto lens that can shoot subjects at a jaw dropping 2m focal distance. The P900 is a bridge camera meaning better image quality than a bargain point-and-shoot or smartphone, but without the option of interchangeable lenses. The P900 has a lot of bang for the buck as an intermediate hobbyist’s camera to shoot everything from macro photography to detailed images of the moon.

Feature Packed

The P900 has an intuitive control layout with a snapback zoom button and a wide selection of scene modes, filter effects, special effects, and macro options. The COOLPIX P900 also features multiple Mode options in accordance with subject's size and position. Nikon says the camera's lag time is a mere 0.12 seconds at the wide-angle position and 0.75 seconds at full telephoto extension, good news for sports photographers. Nikon claims its optical vibration reduction adds up to 5 stops, a necessity when shooting at long focal lengths.

83x Optical Zoom, 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom

With 2,000mm equivalent focal length, subjects barely visible with the naked eye can fill your frame. And if they don't, Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom effectively doubles that reach—to a 4,000mm equivalent! If you lose sight of your subject while zoomed in, press the Snap-Back Zoom button for a quick zoomed-out view. Find your subject again and then release the button—the COOLPIX P900 will zoom right back in. The whole time, 5.0 stops* Dual Detect Optical VR improves VR performance using enhanced detection accuracy to help keep your photos sharp and your videos steady.

*Based on CIPA Standard; measured at approx. 350 mm (35mm format equivalent)

With Nikon's Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC

Quickly and easily send photos wirelessly from your Wi-Fi & NFC enabled COOLPIX P900 to a compatible smartphone or tablet± using the Wireless Mobile Utility app. Share your great photos on the go, even in remote locations, or use a smartphone or tablet to control your camera.

Vari-angle display and high-res viewfinder

The COOLPIX P900 gives you two ways to frame your shots: a swiveling Vari-angle LCD display and a high-resolution eye-level viewfinder (EVF). Flip out the large Vari-angle display and capture photos and videos from creative perspectives—overhead, down low or just comfortably in front of you. Put the COOLPIX P900 to your eye and the EVF automatically turns on and displays a beautiful and accurate high-resolution view.

Full manual exposure control

The COOLPIX P900 can go as far as you want to go. For advanced shooters, a PSAM mode dial is available right on top of the camera, much like a DSLR. Control the COOLPIX P900's aperture and shutter speed to control your shots exactly as you want them or overcome difficult shooting situations. But you don't have to understand exposure controls to get great results—the COOLPIX P900 can do all that work for you.

Built-in GPS and Points of Interest

Relive the excitement of your travels in a whole new way. The COOLPIX P900 records the exact location of each shot you take, so you can follow the path of your adventure and every stunning view along the way! Share your journeys on Google Maps™, Google+™, and other social networking sites, or with Nikon View NX2 software. Points of Interest (POI) show you nearby photo-ops like scenic lookouts and historic landmarks. The COOLPIX P900 is the ultimate travel companion!
